Kennedy was the first men's soccer head coach in Wake Forest University history when he accepted the job in 1980. He returned to the state championship with the Bishop McGuinness women in 2015, falling to Raleigh Charter 2-1. His women's teams at Western appeared in three state championship matches in the 1A/2A combined bracket, winning two of them, one in 2004 and the other the follwing year in 2005. He led Western Guilford to a men's state championship in 1992 with a 2-1 victory over T.C. I’m quite certain that they’re going to be just as devastated as we are.” He has been serving at Bishop McGuinness since 2011 as the Head Women's Soccer Coach.īishop McGuinness Athletic Director Jeff Stoller told the Winston-Salem Journal's Jay Spivey, "“As he’s done, I’m sure at Western Guilford and other schools, as well, he has a tremendous rapport with the kids and a great rapport with the parents." Stoller added, “He developed very close relationships with all the kids, all the students he worked with. Kennedy ran the Western Guilford soccer programs, both men and women, for 25 years and was instrumental in getting soccer fields build at Western Guilford. Grinton currently resides in Greensboro.Long-time soccer coach in the NCHSAA at Western Guilford and Bishop McGuinness, George Kennedy, passed away last week from a heart attack at age 71. Grinton also helped ramrod the special teams unit. He now hopes to bring his energy and excitement to Northern Guilford’s JV team while helping them develop in the classroom and as young athletes. Grinton started his Coaching Career at Greensboro College in 2015 where he served as a Defensive Assistant and coached the outside linebackers. During his senior year, Grinton was second on the team in tackles with 80 tackles which placed him seventh in the conference and was a captain for the Pride. During Grinton’s tenure at Greensboro College, he was a three-year starter. Grinton attended Greensboro College where he earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. His senior year tied for most tackles on the team and was a Captain of the team. Grinton was a two-year letterman in Football and three-year letterman in wrestling. Grinton played his prep ball at R.J Reynolds where he helped the Demons become the CPC Champions with an impressive 11-1 record as a starter and leader of the defense in 2009. Along with heading the JV Grinton will help with linebackers and special teams on Friday nights. Grinton a former Division III linebacker is going into his second season of Coaching after stepping down as an Assistant Defensive Coach at Greensboro College. Mart Grinton, a native of Winston Salem, NC enters his second season at Northern Guilford, First season as Defensive Coordinator. Mart Grinton- Defensive Coordinator/Strength &Conditioning Coordinator As a wide receiver and defensive backs coach at Pulaski. Westberg resides in Greensboro with his wife Susanna. In addition to his college experience, he has had stops at North Brunswick High School in Leland, NC and Pulaski County High School in Pulaski, VA. Westberg also helped the Lane College defense finish 15th in Division II in 2007. Under his tutelage, First Team defensive tackle selection James Lee tied the all-time single season school record for tackles for loss with 18. In 2010 at The Apprentice School, Westberg coached three All-Conference honorees. Among his previous duties have included coaching the defensive line, linebackers, defensive backs, and special teams. Westberg has a diverse collegiate coaching background, highlighted by stints at The Apprentice School, UNC-Pembroke, Lane College (TN) and Guilford College. Throndset rewrote the school and conference single game and season record books and earned National Team of the Week honors following a record-breaking performance in a victory over LaGrange in the season finale. Under his guidance at Greensboro College, quarterback Ryan Throndset led the USA South in passing in 2012 and was named to the All-Conference Team. Westberg was promoted to Offensive Coordinator for the 2015 season and served as interim Head Coach for the spring of 2016. He served as the running backs and quarterbacks coach from 2012-14. Westberg Comes from Greensboro College where he joined the staff in 2011 coaching defensive backs and special teams.
